Textiles "Date night" Workshop Ideas
No clearance required / all sewing done by a docent
- Iron-on transfers - Docents pre-fuse a bunch of cute fabrics to iron-on transfer paper. Workshop attendees draw and cut shapes, then iron to substrate to make a scene, words, etc. Docents zigzag over raw edges of transfers (could be during class so that attendees go home with their items, or could be afterwards and attendees pick up items later).
- Tote bags
- Aprons
- Tees
- Hats
- Baby onesies
- Embroidered patches - Pick colors and design/s (probably don't do custom lettering again, that took forever). Docents embroider. Fuse to iron-on transfer paper and cut out. Go home with iron-on patch(es).
- Leggings (with 2+ docents, one on the serger) - Take measurements (gotta be as numbers alas) and draft a pattern. Pick fabric and cut out. Docent sews (it's only three seams and the serger is fast). Go home with pattern and finished garment.
Consumer sewing machine clearance required
- Plastic-free storage bags for vegetables, grains, bulk bins, etc. Can be custom-sized. Lay out, cut, and sew in class, go home with finished bag(s).
- Alterations: Add Pockets To Anything. Bring pants, dress, skirt, shorts, bag. Lay out, cut, and sew patch or inseam pockets in class. Go home with em-pocketed item.
- Garment sewing without a pattern, made to fit you. Take measurements (can be done without numbers) and lay out directly on fabric, cut and sew in class, go home with finished garment.
- Gore skirt
- Lounge pants
- Garment sewing, custom pattern. Take measurements (gotta be as numbers alas) and draft a pattern. Cut and sew in class, go home with pattern and finished garment.
